Thank you for ordering the shareware version of AM-EDIT. I trust that
you will find it to be the fastest and most powerful full-screen text
editor that you have ever used.
The following files are located on the diskette:
* AMEDIT.EXE The AM-EDIT program. This is the ONLY program
needed to run the system. There are no overlays
or external programs needed for setting colors
and other parameters. Everything you need is in
this one program, which is under 40K in size.
* AMEDIT.DOC This is the 50-page reference manual. A printed
and bound manual will be mailed to you if you
decide to register.
* README.DOC This document file
* HISTORY.DOC A file containing the history of AM-EDIT.
* REGISTER.DOC A form for registering your copy of AM-EDIT.
* VENDOR.DOC A file containing information for the Shareware
vendors.
Your Shareware vendor may not have included the file VENDOR.DOC on
the diskette, and may have added an installation batch file.
AM-EDIT will run on any IBM PC (or compatible) having at least 128k
of memory, a hard disk drive, a floppy drive, and DOS version 2.0
(or any later version).
To install the system, copy the files from the diskette onto your
hard disk drive using the following DOS command:
copy a:*.* OR copy b:*.*
If you create a new directory for AM-EDIT, you may want to alter
your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to include the new directory in the PATH
command to make it easier to execute from any directory.
To execute AM-EDIT, enter "amedit" on the DOS command line and
press the ENTER key. If you prefer, you can enter the name of the
file that you wish to edit after the command, for example:
amedit yourfile.doc <enter>
You will want to list the reference manual (file AMEDIT.DOC) on
your printer, but it is not entirely necessary. You can browse
through the manual by using the DOS TYPE command.
After you have read through the manual once, you may never need
to consult it again. This is because AM-EDIT provides extensive
on-screen help, which is initiated by pressing function key F1.
If you find AM-EDIT useful for your needs and you continue to use
it after a reasonable trial period, please register your copy. I
can not stay in business without your support. File REGISTER.DOC
consists of a form to use for registering.
AM-EDIT is a fairly new product, having been in development for 23
months. For the past 17 months, I have used AM-EDIT as the editor
for making enhancements to AM-EDIT itself, so you can be assured
that the system is well tested and will not damage any of your files.
The next version is already under development. Some of the enhance-
ments planned for future versions are:
* Faster load and save.
* Expand of the Trace command.
* Expand the calculator to handle binary and hex arithmetic.
* Allow user to delete, rename, and save a file under a new name.
* Add autosave, autoblank, and autobeep (time reminder) options.
Any suggestions that you have are welcomed. Thank's again for trying
AM-EDIT!
